A GoFundMe launched to help the Buffalo Wheelchair Basketball Youth League raise $20,000 in order to purchase 10 wheelchairs for this program that integrates people with physical disabilities and people without disabilities together on the court to learn and play competitive wheelchair basketball.
On Oct. 3, the Buffalo Wheelchair Basketball Youth League had its first practice with five players. Six weeks later, the league had grown to 18 athletes participating weekly. Greater Buffalo Adaptive Sports (formerly the Sled Hockey Foundation) is a nonprofit organization that has loaned the league 12 sports wheelchairs to get started. The goal is to raise $20,000 to buy 10 chairs.
