The Lewiston Garden Club and Village of Lewiston Beautification officially unveiled “Best Friends” at a ceremony Tuesday inside Seneca Park, next to the Lewiston Public Library.

Local elected leaders joined in for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Located in the center of the park, the sculpture shows a young boy and a young girl on a bench looking inside a book. The statue was a gift from Lewiston residents Francis and Marie Williams. The piece was chosen by the Garden Club to encourage reading.

Also on Tuesday, a redbud tree was donated in memory of Jeanne Blinco, a deceased member of the Garden Club who was an active member for many years. Her family was on hand to mark the occasion.

The planting and design of the new placement was done with the help of Kevin Brown, a local landscaper with Walnut Creek Property Beautification. It is the latest addition to what is commonly called “Bug Park.”

The Garden Club uses proceeds from its annual GardenFest event to maintain and spruce up green spaces throughout Lewiston.
