From Aug. 1-4 a group of Adams Fire Co. firemen went to Watkins Glen International to enjoy a weekend of NASCAR racing.
While the group was setting up, firefighters hooked up with three U.S. Marine Corp veterans who were working the weekend’s festivities by shuttling people to the track and the events.
While speaking with one of the veterans (Steve), he said the two vets he had working with him happened to be homeless.
At that time, the firefighters decided they would put a boot out on their camp bar and collect donations for the homeless vets. The group also invited them to stay at their camp for the weekend when they were not working, as well as to eat with them and sleep wherever they wanted.
The Adams Fire Co. firefighters said they had a great time, and at the end of the weekend they were able to collect $300 for the two homeless veterans.
