The medical staff of Mount St. Mary’s Hospital has awarded scholarships to four local high school students, and one hospital associate, to advance their education.
Dr. Thomas Cumbo, vice president of medical affairs, said the awards were presented to applicants seeking to pursue a career in medicine and were based on scholastic achievement and community service.
Those receiving the $1,000 awards included Samantha Wardzala, nurse attendant, emergency department; Suhana Monsalve, Lewiston-Porter High School; Hannah Anderson, Lockport High School; Kamryn Smith, Niagara Falls High School; and Lindsay Kancar, Niagara-Wheatfield High School.
The medical staff represents physicians at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital. The scholarship committee included Cumbo; Shawn P. Ferguson, M.D.; Donald J. Largo Jr., M.D.; and Benjamin G. Rueda, M.D.
