Many have said, “You’ve been given the gift of life, give it back.” Locals will have the opportunity to do just that and enhance or save a life come June 19.
Niagara County Legislator Jesse Gooch announced to the crowd Monday at the Wheatfield Town Board meeting he is sponsoring a Unyts blood drive from 3-7 p.m. at the Town Hall campus, 2800 Church Road. The drive is titled the “United We Give Blood Drive.”
The Unyts 2018 community impact report said there were 24,072 donated blood and platelets. That number reflected more than 89,000 lives that were potentially saved and/or enhanced through organ, eye, tissue and blood donation. In addition, Unyts conducted 888 blood drives in 2018.
According to the Unyts vision, it said, “Unyts, with an ongoing tradition of excellence, strives to be the recognized leader in the multi-faceted delivery of exceptional, donor-centered organ, tissue, eye and blood donation services to the Western New York community. We will succeed in this endeavor by joining cooperatively with our partners – community resources, donor hospitals, donors, recipients and their families -- to advance the dynamic donate life message.”
Gooch said it felt good to be giving back to those in need.
“I’m proud to sponsor this great community event. We all expect blood to be available if a loved one needs it, and that’s only made possible by those who give blood. I encourage all to attend this event and donate – you could be saving a life,” Gooch said.
Those interested in donating can schedule an appointment at unytsblooddonor.org and enter sponsor code 000516, or call 716-529-4270. Photo identification is required to donate.
All donors will receive a “United We Give” T-shirt.
