Niagara County Community College Interim President Dr. William J. Murabito and William L. Ross, chair of the board of trustees, acknowledged several award-winning student-athletes and coaches during a brief presentation at last Tuesday’s trustees meeting.

The wrestling team, under the direction of Northeast District I Coach of the Year Keith Maute, won its 22nd Region III championship this past winter. NCCC had eight finalists and three champions at regionals. Freshman Greg Quinn and sophomore Freddy Eckles were NJCAA All-Americans.

The men’s basketball team, led by Region III Coach of the Year Bill Beilein, won 27 games including a thrilling victory over rival Erie Community College in the District XII championship. NCCC made its second NJCAA Division II National Tournament appearance in the past three years.

Region III Coach of the Year Nate Beutel’s women’s basketball team completed an undefeated 31-0 regular season en route to its first Region III title and a berth in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. Sophomore Kenetria Redfern was named an NJCAA All-American.

The golf team, led by Region III Coach of the Year Matt Oleski, recently won its first regional championship since 1968. The entire NCCC roster qualified for the 2019 NJCAA Division III Championships, which is slated for June 4-7 at Chautauqua Golf Club.
