Fire companies visit early childhood education students

Thu, Apr 25th 2019 12:50 pm

The early childhood education students at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center invited local firefighters into the Niagara Preschool Learning Center recently.

Aaron Binner and Adam Binner, from Adams Fire Co., and Josh Domin, from Shawnee Fire Co., spent some time with the preschoolers teaching a unit on fire safety. The preschoolers were able to see what a firefighter looks like with all their gear on.

“We wanted them to be aware of what they look like, so that in case of a fire, they would not be afraid of the firefighter,” said teacher Laura Koeppel.

The preschool is a way for high school students in the program to learn skills working with children and for children to get an introduction to the school setting.

Those with a child, age 3 and up, who would like to attend the Niagara Preschool can contact Laura Koeppel at [email protected]

The center is located at 3181 Saunders Settlement Road in Sanborn and runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the school year from 8:25 a.m. to 10:40 a.m.  It will not run when Orleans/Niagara BOCES is closed. Tuition is free and there is a nominal registration fee. Children must be 3 years of age by Dec. 1, 2019.
