“Is there a fire in you?” is the theme of the RecruitNY weekend (April 27-28) organized by the Firemens Association of the State of New York.
Over 400 fire companies statewide are joining in the effort to invite more people from the local community to become members in the volunteer fire service.
As part of the effort, FASNY honors one fire company from each of its eight regions with its ultimate recruitment tool kit, providing a fire hall banner, T-shirts and even an air dancer to promote the event.
Christopher Wildey, president of Columbia Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 in North Tonawanda, in February enrolled his company in the event. In March, FASNY selected Columbia Hook and Ladder for the honor in Western New York, a region covering 10 counties.
FASNY officers Edward Tase, second vice president, and Andrew Pilecki of the board of directors, made the presentation at Columbia’s April 3 meeting.
The fire company will host an open house at its hall, 85 Columbia Drive, from noon to 4 p.m. both Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28. The event invites men and women to learn about the fire service and how volunteering gives back to community.
There are many roles open in volunteer fire companies needing willing and dedicated members. The fire co. encourages volunteers to reach out and join Columbia Hook and Ladder or any of the local volunteer fire companies in the region.
