Westermeier Martin Dental Care said there are over 50,000 new cases of oral cancer each year. So, the company is holding free screenings at its facilities this Friday.
Among the symptoms that could indicate oral cancer presence are difficulty swallowing, chewing or speaking; an irritation that doesn’t go away; red or white patches; pain or tenderness; or a lump or crusted area.
The disease can strike anyone, both tobacco users and nonusers, as evidenced by NFL Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly, who has endured a brave fight against squamous cell carcinoma.
Staff at Westermeier chose this particular date in honor of Kelly and his commitment to the Buffalo area, sporting the No. 12 jersey through his 11 seasons with the Bills.
Screenings will be held at the East Aurora office, located at 950 Main St.; the Amherst office, located at 3500 Sheridan Drive; and in Hamburg, located at 17 Long Ave., Suite 101. Appointments can be made by calling 716-508-4547.
