Funds raised at ‘Casino for a Cause II’ event hosted by Zach and Bianca Bogosian will benefit research and patient care

Foundation’s 3rd major event to benefit Roswell Park; to date foundation has donated $155,000 to Roswell Park

On Wednesday, Buffalo Sabre Zach Bogosian and his wife, Bianca, presented Candace Johnson, Ph.D., Roswell Park President and CEO, as well as RPCI patient Matt Hoffower, with a $75,000 donation to support research and care at the comprehensive cancer center.

The funds were raised at “Casino for a Cause II,” the BOGO Bunch Foundation’s roaring 1920s-themed event held on Feb. 2 at the Town Ballroom. More than 600 guests attended the event, which featured live and silent auctions, as well as special appearances by Bogosian’s Buffalo Sabres teammates, who served as the gaming table dealers for the night.

To date, the $75,000 gift is the largest donation the foundation has made to any organization. Combined with donations from the first “Casino for a Cause” event in 2017 and the Bogosian “Kancer Jam” Kan Jam tournament in 2018, the foundation’s contributions to Roswell Park total $155,000.

“Our community is really fortunate to have one of the nation’s leading cancer centers right here in Buffalo, and the BOGO Bunch Foundation is proud to play a part in advancing their mission,” Bogosian said. “Bianca and I are thankful to the Sabres organization, sponsors, volunteers and everyone who attended the event that helped in making this donation possible. We know these dollars are in good hands and will be used to develop new treatments and therapies that can improve the quality of life for patients and potentially save lives from cancer.”

Johnson said, “We are grateful to Zach and Bianca for supporting the cutting-edge research taking place at Roswell Park that drives the best possible treatment and care for our patients. This generous donation will benefit so many in our community, and we thank the BOGO Bunch Foundation for their continued partnership with Roswell Park.”

The BOGO Bunch Foundation was founded by Bogosian in 2015 as a way to give financially to the cancer community. His grandmother, Armen, suffered from lymphoma, and he credits research and therapy for keeping her alive for many enjoyable years after her diagnosis.
