In the wake of the recent severe winter weather, the Town Board of Grand Island issued a proclamation thanking providers of emergency services.
The board at its Monday meeting in Town Hall presented a proclamation to Andrew Sharpe, government operations liaison for the Red Cross for its support during the cold and windstorms.
Town Supervisor Nathan McMurray noted that Grand Island’s emergency services coordinator, Greg Butcher, is also Erie County’s emergency services coordinator. He was part of the response team that provided “invaluable aid to those in need,” the proclamation said, and warming shelters at the Golden Age Center for those who had lost power during the storm.
Councilman Peter Marston said the town is working to officially designate the Nike Base Golden Age Center on Whitehaven Road, as well as the Western New York Welcome Center on Alvin Road as warming shelters.
