The New York State Department of Transportation announced demolition work is scheduled to begin next week on a project to remove a portion of the Niagara Scenic Parkway in the City of Niagara Falls. As a result, a new road closure is scheduled to begin.

Beginning at approximately 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, Whirlpool Street, between Cleveland and Chestnut streets, will be closed to through traffic until further notice. Local traffic only will be permitted. Motorists will be directed to follow a posted detour. NEXUS users seeking access to the Whirlpool Bridge Plaza should use Depot Street West.

This work is weather-sensitive and could be delayed in the event of inclement weather.

Recently, NYSDOT and the governor’s Traffic Safety Committee unveiled a new public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of respecting flagging personnel. This year’s work zone safety campaign, “Flaggers have families too,” is designed to remind motorists that flagging personnel are not attempting to disrupt traffic – they are simply doing their jobs and want to get home safely at the end of each work day. The PSA can be viewed here and here.
