Attendees asked to bring picture of their child

The Western New York Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will hold a public candlelight remembrance service Tuesday, Dec. 11. The service will begin at 7 p.m. at the Amherst Lutheran Church, located at 5125 Main St., Williamsville.

Those attending are encouraged to bring a picture of the child or children they are honoring. Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be served. Attendees are welcome to bring a fork-free snack to share.

The Compassionate Friends was founded more than 40 years ago at the Warwickshire Hospital in England, and was subsequently established in the U.S. and incorporated in 1978 in Illinois.

“When a child dies, at any age, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope and support to every family experiencing the death of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family,” a press release stated. “Each chapter is committed to helping every bereaved parent, sibling, or grandparent who may walk through our doors or contact us.”

The Western New York chapter of The Compassionate Friends currently meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Amherst Lutheran Church.
