On Saturday, the Town of Wheatfield held its annual Christmas tree lighting and kids party at the town's Community Center. The festivities helped bring in the 2018 version of the holiday season, as Santa Claus arrived via a St. Johnsburg Fire Co. truck and greeted children upon arrival.
Santa also helped light up the Wheatfield Community Center complex, as St. Nick flipped the Christmas "light switch" from off to on, queuing the decorative lights display to glow for all attendees to see.
The party continued inside, as there was a hot cocoa station, cookie decorating, games, movies, crafts, a show by Nickel City Reptiles and, of course, visits with Santa.
Recreation Director Mike Ranalli said the event was a glowing success adding "It was a wonderful event for the town. We had a huge turnout; probably the biggest in my tenure. Nickel City put on a great show at the end to kind of bring down the house and it was just a really good event for our kids. Santa really came through for us."
The turnout included a good showing of kids, families and elected officials. All in all, the 2018 version of the Wheatfield Christmas party was a success and a big start to the winter's holiday season.
