Every year, volunteers from the Historical Association of Lewiston meet to wash and put a coat of wax on Lewiston's two large-scale bronze monuments. Last Sunday's weather was perfect and the crew met at the Freedom Crossing and Tuscarora Heroes monuments to perform their magic.
Volunteers included Peter Henderson, Tim Henderson, Christian Burnham (a descendent of a Tuscarora hero), Ken Slaugenhoupt, Bruce Sutherland, Pam Hauth, Skip Hauth, Scott McKay, Tom Collister, Zach Collister, Susan Geissler and Victor Eydt.
The Freedom Crossing Monument was installed over nine years ago while the Tuscarora Heroes Monument will commemorate its fifth anniversary on Dec. 19. The sites are popular and are rated among the top things to do and see in Lewiston by visitors who review and rank area attractions and destinations on TripAdvisor.com.
