Students at the Newfane Learning Center recently spent a fall day at the Newfane ProAm/Blarney Stone Disc Golf Course.
Teacher Sam Castiglione had teamed up with its owners three years ago to design and install the disc golf course on their property and ever since has brought the Orleans/Niagara BOCES students to the course to learn job skills.  The students are taught about landscaping techniques such as trimming, weed whacking and course maintenance.  The students were also allowed to tour the kitchen and make some homemade French fries.
"The students were awesome," said Castiglione. "They were setting up for a disc golf tournament the following weekend and the students helped to clean and set up tournament central.  They swept leaves, washed and arranged the tables and chairs."
The grateful owner cooked the students' lunch and they got to play a round of disc golf to end their day.
