Today's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.91, up 3 cents from last week. One year ago, the price was $2.50. The New York State average is $3.01 - up 2 cents from last week. A year ago, the STATE average was $2.71.
AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
  • Batavia - $2.95 (no change since last week)
  • Buffalo - $2.99 (no change since last week)
  • Ithaca - $2.97 (up 7 cents since last week)

The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $2.91 per gallon, which is 3 cents more than last week, 6 cents more than last month, and 41 cents more than a year ago. Gas prices continue to climb this week due to increased crude prices, which account for 50 percent of the price drivers pay at the pump.
Crude prices continue to rise due to concerns around the impact of U.S.-imposed sanctions on Iran, which will go into effect early next month and target Iran's energy sector, as well as the economic collapse in Venezuela.
With fall travel at its peak for Columbus Day and higher demand this weekend, gas prices jumped to summer-like levels while gasoline stocks are down slightly.
