Niagara County Community College hosted participants from all over the country as part of the 33rd annual National College Learning Center Association Annual (NCLCA) Conference, titled, "Unleashing the Power of Your Learning Center." The conference provided higher education learning center professionals with the opportunity to discover best practices for tutoring services, data collection and supplemental instruction, while gaining mentorship from others in the field.
Daily sessions took place at the Conference and Event Center in Niagara Falls from Oct. 2-5, with a visit to the newly renovated Academic Center for Excellence within the new Learning Commons building at NCCC. A record number of students have utilized the new facility, and NCLCA attendees saw firsthand how the transformed space best facilitates services for students. In addition to the visit to Sanborn, conferencegoers had the opportunity to attend a dinner at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute.
On Thursday, Madison Ackerman, coordinator of the Academic Center for Excellence at NCCC, was recognized as the NCLCA's 2018 Karen Quinn Scholarship recipient. This award is given to one member of the organization annually, providing Ackerman with the opportunity to receive more in-depth professional development. She was selected for her desire to grow in her profession, and had the opportunity to share her experience as a part of the conference.
