Tonawanda Coke Corporation has been ordered to appear in Federal court regarding a potential violation of the company's probation from their 2013 criminal sentence.
The company, located across the Niagara River from Grand Island, and CEO Paul Saffrin are ordered to appear at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, before Judge William Skretny.
The court hearing is open to the public. U.S. District Court is located at 2 Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner issued a cease and desist order to Tonawanda Coke Corporation due to ongoing environmental violations and resident concerns. On March 28, 2013, the company was fined and one of its employees sent to jail after a jury issued a guilty verdict on felony counts of violating the Clean Air Act.
