On Aug. 23, an excellent attendance turned out at the annual Wheatfield Lions Club Steak Night at the Lions Den in Wheatfield. The event not only honored the service of the Canadian St. Davids and USA/WNY Lions, it honored other groups including Rotary, Kiwanis, local business association, and more.
Thanks were extended to Pellicano's (of Niagara Falls Boulevard, Wheatfield) for the quality of cut steaks and supporting foods, while they also provided a packed basket of quality goods to raffle. The corn came from Wheatfield Councilman Gil Doucet.
Many of the Lions worked hard to ensure the event's success. Thanks were extended to co-chair Lion Bill Ross (he was also the event emcee); Lion Art Kroening operated the grills, corn boiler, and shopping runs for beverages, ice, cooking tools, and more. Kroening even rescued a person who got locked in the bathroom and could not unlock the door. Lion Bob Cliffe took care of all finances; Lions Agnes Ryan, Mary Beth Long and Nancy Rosie not only made sure the event ran smoothly, but they made everything look good and helped serve the food, and much more; Lion Justin Higner became the master of steak distribution and helped with heavy lifting; Distinct Governor Lion Jeff Jarvis of Pendleton helped briskly with cleanup; and many more chipped in to help.
In cooking their own steaks, everyone got their steak grilled to perfection. The grounds and gazebo looked great (now with stones as a cover), and the grass was just cut that day by the town.
The Lions Club received many compliments on the facility, with special thanks to Junior's Landscaping for all of their hard work. Thanks were also extended to the VIPs and other special guests.
As a result of this event, to honor all the various service groups, the recent multi Lions Clubs friendship picnic, the opioid community leaders forum, recent Lions District meeting, recent District Convention, and more; the Wheatfield Lions Club is more recognized as vibrant and supporting to the Lions organization and those in need. August has been a substantial month for the club.
