This year the Grand Island Lions Club's Special Kids Picnic entertained many children and their chaperones to a day of fun and food, including boat rides, pony rides, face painting, music, hot dogs and hamburgers. The Lions rely on donations from the community to fund this event.
The Knights of Columbus Mary Star of the Sea Council No. 4752 said it was again successful on Saturday, Aug. 18, with its chicken dinner and basket raffle. The Council donated $200 to the Lions to help support their annual Special Kid Picnic, which was held on July 18.
This year's Knights dinner was sold out, as in the past few years, thanks to support from the community for both the Knights of Columbus and Lions. As this has become an annual event for the Knights of Columbus, support in the future is appreciated, the council said.
