Earlier this week, Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn said, "In light of the grand jury report released by the attorney general's office in Pennsylvania, the New York State Attorney General's Office contacted our office regarding a potential joint investigation into alleged sexual abuse by Catholic priests in New York state, specifically within the Diocese of Buffalo. The Erie County District Attorney's Office is in consultation with the attorney general's office to explore the logistics of a potential partnership."
Flynn commended the victims "for their strength in coming forward about the abuses they endured." His office said, "The district attorney has and will continue to aggressively investigate all criminal matters brought to his attention in order to provide justice to the victims."
Flynn said he would continue to push the New York Stat Legislature for the passage of the Child Victims Act in next year's legislative session. This proposed law would extend the statute of limitations for the victims of child sexual abuse.
