Sat, Aug 18th 2018 07:00 am
The Town of Grand Island Engineering Department will host a public information meeting for the Grand Island Sidewalk Accessibility Project, which will complete a network of sidewalks on both sides of Grand Island Boulevard from Webb Road to Fantasy Island.
The meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, in the upstairs lobby of Grand Island Town Hall, 2255 Baseline Road.
According to the town's Engineering Department, the Grand Island Sidewalk Accessibility Project will establish 7,500 feet of sidewalk along both sides of the boulevard and include drainage improvements, pedestrian accommodations, lighting and landscaping.
Money for the project comes from a $1 million state grant.
The meeting will be an open house forum with presentation boards, visual displays and pamphlets explaining the various elements of the design and construction phases. The design team will be on hand to help explain and clarify the proposed project, answer questions and record audience comments.
The Grand Island Sidewalk Accessibility Project includes the following:
•Installation of approximately 7,500 feet of sidewalk along Grand Island Boulevard between Webb Road and Fantasy Island, completing the sidewalk network on both sides of the street.
•Drainage improvements at several locations where ponding occurs on existing sidewalks.
•Upgrades to pedestrian accommodations at all intersections within the project limits.
•New mid-block crosswalk at or near the Fantasy Island entrances, which may include a rectangular rapid flashing beacon.
•Potential installation of pedestrian level lighting throughout the entire corridor.
•Installation of new street trees where space allows.
Those who require special arrangements for the meeting (translators, handicap accessibility, etc.) or further information can contact Lynn Dingey of the town's Engineering Department at 773-9600, ext. 626, or email [email protected].
