Niagara County Community College and the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences have signed an articulation agreement that will provide students the opportunity to earn a doctor of pharmacy degree in a streamlined process with the easy transfer of credits from NCCC to UB.
Under the 2+4 agreement, students will complete 78 credit hours in two years of undergraduate study at NCCC in the liberal arts and sciences: math/science degree program, and then apply to UB's four-year Doctor of Pharmacy program. This six-year program will allow students to complete all of UB's prerequisites at NCCC, though admission into UB's program is not guaranteed. Students must identify their intent to pursue this program within the first 30 credits hours taken at NCCC, maintain a 3.5 grade-point average overall in their math and science courses, submit transcripts after each year completed, and meet any additional minimum requirements established by the UB Doctor of Pharmacy admissions committee.
"This new articulation agreement between Niagara County Community College and the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences provides interested students a pathway into the PharmD program," said Gail Tylec, interim vice president of academic affairs at NCCC. "As part of this agreement, a minimum of two qualified students from NCCC who are deemed fully acceptable by the University at Buffalo PharmD admissions committee will be guaranteed acceptance into the UB SPPS each year. This is an incredible opportunity for NCCC students and represents the college's ongoing commitment to the student journey."
NCCC chemistry coordinator Dr. Lindsay Rose said, "The convenience for students to take their first two years of the program at NCCC, with the personalized attention of our outstanding faculty, will prepare them to be successful at UB and beyond."
The University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education and is the No. 1 ranked school of pharmacy in New York and No. 22 in the U.S. (U.S. News & World Report).
