Twenty-four airmen from the 4th Special Operations Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida, were awarded Distinguished Flying Crosses for four separate engagements, all of which included an AC-130 protecting friendly forces in Afghanistan.
On April 8, 2017, a crew, including SSGT Jordan M. Gelnett, was flying support for 281 U.S. and Afghan special operations forces again near Nangarhar. During the air fight, a weapons cache was destroyed and 281 American and Afghan Special Forces lives were saved.
Gelnett, pictured, received the Distinguished Flying Cross from Lt. Gen. Webb at Hurlburt Field. His parents are Terrie and John Bednarczyk of Ransomville. Gelnett is a 2009 graduate of Wilson High School.
