Chairman of the Wheatfield Family Picnic Committeee Mike Zarbo recently announced the 40th annual Wheatfield Family Picnic will return to Fairmount Park.
The event will open up shop at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26 with opening ceremonies, including a flag raising.
At 11 a.m., an hour-long church service will be held, with the picnic to follow at noon until 5 p.m.
During the picnic, Zarbo said bingo will be held from 2-4 p.m. and he is looking for volunteers to help out. Zarbo said volunteers will work a couple hours doing nothing too complicated.
Along with bingo, there will be a kids fest with face painting, balloons and other various activities for children. Zarbo said the fan-favorite K-9 demonstration from the Niagara County Sheriff's Office will also be back and in attendance.
Zarbo added there will be a petting zoo, along with Birds of Prey - which may bring a Bald Eagle.
The Wheels of Wheatfield Classic Car Show will run during the picnic, as well. Trophies will be awarded at 4 p.m.
The only costs for the parade are for food and basket raffles that will be on hand. Soda and water will also be available.
Adam's Fire Company will supply fried oreos; Bergholz Fire Co. will supply their local favorite chicken chowder; Jack's will supply veggie burgers; the Kiwanis Club of Niagara-Wheatfield will supply coffee and timbits; the Meeting Place will supply chicken and beef souvlaki, gyro pitas, pizza, sausage and fries; Project Future will supply soda and water; The Nut Hut will supply cinnamon almonds, popcorn and candy; the Wheatfield Democratic Club will cook hot dogs; the Wheatfield Nitros baseball team will sell Chiavetta's chicken dinners; and the Wheatfield Republican Club is supplying roast beef sandwiches along with corn on the cob.
Although dogs are allowed in Fairmount Park, Zarbo said the town waived the permission for the day and dogs will not be allowed, because of the anxiety it causes for dogs and other animals in the petting zoo area.
Zarbo said the day should be a fun way for Wheatfield and surrounding communities to come together and have an enjoyable day.
