Now through the end of August, Soma Cura Wellness Center is leading six free outdoor yoga classes each week in area park settings - and one just for kids, too.
With the "Summer Outdoor Series of Yoga," Soma Cura is offering free outdoor yoga classes five days a week, all summer long (weather permitting) at park venues from Niagara Falls to Buffalo. These all-level classes are ideal for beginners, or accomplished yogis alike. Most classes take place on the edge of the Niagara River, and can improve one's ability to thoughtfully respond rather than instinctually react to life's surprises, all while taking care of one's bodies, too. The goal of these outdoor classes is to give people an easy, low-barrier way to practice yoga and learn the mental, physical and spiritual benefits it provides.
The "SOS" series runs from Tuesday through Saturday. All Soma Cura classes are all levels, so it doesn't matter if it's one's first class. Weeknight classes start at 6 p.m. while the Saturday class starts at 9:30 a.m.
Tuesday starts the week with a class in Tonawanda at Niawanda Park on the water's edge by the bandshell. On Wednesday, participants can head north to Niagara Falls State Park (Goat Island, near parking lot No. 2). Thursday night includes something special for children, with simultaneous classes in the Grand Island Town Common. Kids ages 6-10 can take a class while parents take an all levels adult class. On Friday, "SOS" is at Canalside is as part of the "Community Fitness with Blue Cross Blue Shield" series. The final class of the week, on Saturday morning, is in Niagara Falls on the back lawn of the Four Points Sheraton. On special occasions, the hotel may bring a special refreshment after practice.
