Assemblyman Angelo J. Morinello and New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs will offer a free, one-hour Alzheimer's Awareness event from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the Golden Age Center, 3278 Whitehaven Road, Grand Island. The class will be taught by the WNY Alzheimer's Association and will cover the four areas of lifestyle habits that are associated with healthy aging, including cognitive activity, physical health and exercise, diet and nutrition and social engagement.
Attendees can ask questions following the presentation.
"I've heard countless stories of loss and heartbreak due to Alzheimer's and I'm proud to do my part in helping to spread awareness about this terrible disease," Morinello said. "Awareness and education are key to maintaining good health, healthy lifestyle habits and preventing the onset of cognitive decline. This event will give attendees an opportunity to hear about current research and what we can do to improve or maintain our overall health. It's a great privilege to host this year's Alzheimer's awareness event and I'm hopeful the community will come out to learn about this devastating disease."
"We are thankful to Assemblyman Morinello and Sen. Jacobs for their efforts in raising awareness about Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias," said Lauren Ashburn, director of respite services at the Alzheimer's Association. "Thousands of families across Erie and Niagara counties face the challenge of dementia, and Assemblyman Morinello and Sen. Jacobs are helping ensure they have access to information and services to help them."
