Change MS Wellness Foundation will host its fourth annual "Orange Affair: Taste of Summer" event from 6-11 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Dos Amigos on the Lake, 3800 Hoover Road, Blasdell.
Change MS is a local nonprofit created by Buffalo native Tony Ferro after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2012. Western New York has one of the highest diagnosis rates for MS in the world, which is why Ferro felt compelled to create Change MS Wellness Foundation in 2014.
Ferro, a nutritional practitioner, has been featured on national webinars with Dr. Terry Wahl and Diane Capaldi of Paleo Boss. Although he is not against the use of medicine, he said he has been able to control his MS without medication through lifestyle changes. Ferro said he has been blessed to use his knowledge to help others with MS improve their health while developing an international following with his approach.
"I wanted to provide proactive lifestyle education and an abundance of support to local MS patients," Ferro said. "I have so many goals for the foundation this year, so this fundraiser will help support the growth of Change MS."
Change MS welcomes anyone with MS to a non-judgmental support group every third Thursday of every month from (6:30-8:30 p.m.). In addition to the proactive support group, it offers college scholarships; body, mind and spirit educational classes; and holistic health scholarships. The group has donated to Woman and Children's Hospital and the University of Buffalo.
Change MS has a volunteer board and staff directing all resources to its cause. The goal is to increase knowledge of MS success stories and help their clients remove barriers to healing.
Tickets for the event are $60 and include a chance to win a door prize. There will be an open bar, DJ, basket raffles and food. Tickets are being sold here, while event sponsor information can be found here.
