West Street Elementary reveals Community Rock Garden

Thu, Jun 21st 2018 05:00 pm
On June 7, the students at Niagara-Wheatfield's West Street Elementary School showed off their new rock garden at the entrance of the school.
Each student, 450 in total, painted a rock in Kristen Raimondi's art class and placed it in the garden.
"As a school, we celebrate each other's unique gifts and qualities and thought this would be a wonderful way to showcase our beautiful individuality," said Raimondi.
Principal Theron Mong stood with Raimondi and the rest of "The Leader in Me" team consisting of Lenore Palmeri, Sandy Guerin and Jen Nalbone for the official unveiling to the public.
The inspiration for the garden was inspired by the book "Only One You" by Linda Kranz, which talks about the importance of being proud of who you are and celebrating your individuality. It encourages readers by telling them, "There's only one you in the great big world. Make it a better place."
The evening included an art show, book fair and the school's "Harry Potter" themed kickoff for its summer reading program.
