Mon, Jun 11th 2018 01:10 pm
Individuals who are managing health conditions at home, such as diabetes, can dispose of their personal syringes and sharps at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, 5300 Military Road, Lewiston, at no charge.
Syringes and sharps must be in a rigid, puncture-resistant, unbreakable container, secured with a screw top and labeled. The container must have "biohazard" or "contains sharps" written on the outside using a waterproof marker directly on the container or on masking tape on the container. Examples of plastic containers with tight-fitting screwtops are laundry detergent containers and bleach bottles. The larger the opening, the safer it is to store the sharps. Glass or coffee containers are not acceptable. Inappropriate containers will not be accepted.
Household sharps are accepted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at the main information desk, and in the environmental services department between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The environmental services department disposes of sharps according to established policies and procedures for collecting and disposing of regulated medical waste.
Contact the community relations department at 716-298-2146 for more information.
