Caution urged at West River Connector Trail project

The Niagara Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is asking residents and others to avoid using the West River Parkway until all construction work is completed this fall.
The construction work to convert the parkway into a multi-use trail began last month and was formally closed at that time. The eight-mile stretch is currently classified as a construction area that prohibits public access either by foot or vehicle. In a press release this week, State Parks said, "While it may appear that no work is taking place in certain sections of the parkway, potential users are asked to avoid entering the construction area for their own safety. Those choosing to enter the construction zone will be asked to leave."
"The high volume of use we have already seen on the trail speaks to the enthusiasm that exists for this project. However, the contractor has asked that we remind people that this is an unsafe area and that the easier it is for them to work the sooner they will complete the project and the trail will be open. We thank the public for their support and cooperation," said Mark Mistretta, capital facilities manager.
