The Lewiston Lions Club held its first Strides Diabetes Awareness 5K Run/walk on Sunday. A good crowd came out on a chilly morning to take part in a 5K run and walk to raise awareness for diabetes awareness and prevention programs in the area.
The race was won by John Cocco of Newfane, who posted a time of 21:20. The first female finisher was Christine Luongo, of Washington D.C., with a time of 24:23.
After the race, a lunch was served in the Lewiston No. 1 firehall, with the awards ceremony afterward. Inside, there was a basket auction, vendors and a children's craft area.
John Cocco, of Newfane, the overall race winner crosses the finish line.
