This coming Sunday, April 8, will be the 40th anniversary of the ordination to the priesthood of the Rev. Judith Burrows. She was ordained a priest at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church on April 8, 1978, thus becoming the first woman ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York.
The Episcopal Church passed legislation in September 1976 permitting women to be ordained priests.
Pastor Burrows served as the rector at St. Martin's from 1980-86. From 1977-80, she was the assistant at St. Martin's.
Pastor Burrows will be at St. Martin's, 2587 Baseline Road, this coming Sunday, April 8, to mark this landmark event in the life of St. Martin's and of the diocese.
Worship is at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., and Pastor Burrows will both preside and preach at both services. A reception will follow the 10 a.m. service. All are welcome.
