Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue, a local rescue that has been saving the lives of unwanted, abandoned and homeless animals since 2012, will team up with local community groups for its annual fundraiser. The sixth annual "Heart to Heart: A Taste of the Niagara Region" will take place from noon to 3 p.m. April 21, at the Cambria Wilson Volunteer Firehall in Lockport.
The event this year will focus on help from community groups such as Opportunities Unlimited, whose members will make centerpieces with HON volunteers. Other local groups involved are the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Lewiston-Porter Builders Club and Key Club members. "A Taste of the Niagara Region" will feature approximately 30 restaurants providing a sample of their signature dishes, as well as DJ music and a large basket auction.
The directors of the HON rescue, Kathy Nowakowski, Margie Kwiatkowski and Diane McKee, along with volunteers, work tirelessly to provide food and veterinarian care while seeking forever homes for these animals. Many of these animal companions could be euthanized without the love and care of rescues such as Heart of Niagara.
Tickets are on sale now, for $25, online at www.heartofniagara.org.
