Erie County: Hardwick resolution approved to transfer surplus items to GI

Fri, Mar 2nd 2018 06:50 pm
The week of Feb. 5-9, Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick's resolution transferring surplus property from Erie County's warehouse to the Town of Grand Island was approved by the Erie County Legislature. The items no longer served a purpose to Erie County, and were requested by municipal officials in Grand Island.
"This is the type of arrangement taxpayers want to see. Instead of spending additional taxpayer dollars on unnecessary new purchases, Erie County and Grand Island worked together to repurpose items for the town to use. Cooperation between local governments like this benefits everyone," said Hardwick.
The items being transferred to the Town of Grand Island include a conference table, 16 wooden stationary chairs, four round tables and a pick-up truck toolbox.
Final opportunity to order trees, shrubs
Orders for tree and shrub seedlings through the Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District's 2018 conservation tree and shrub seedling program must be received by March 16 for the 2018 sale.
Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District, planting trees and shrubs provides wildlife cover and food, stabilizes soil, protects water quality, shelters crops and landscape, reduces air pollution, and reduces heating and cooling expenses.
The program offers 38 species of seedlings, including evergreens, hardwood trees and conservation shrubs. The district also offers 11 varieties of 4-year-old evergreen transplants. The bare root plants are sold in prepackaged bundles of various sizes and seedling sampler packs are available for attracting songbirds, butterflies and wildlife. Also for sale are wildflower seed mixes, fertilizer tablets, marking flags, and tree shelters to protect seedlings.
For order forms and seedling information, visit the district website at www.exswcd.org or call 716-652-8480, ext. 5.
