Kenan Center: February youth programs & family events

The Kenan Center in Lockport is planning special youth and family programs for the month of February, including "Tales at the Taylor Theater" on Sunday, Feb. 11, and winter break programming from Tuesday, Feb. 20, through Friday, Feb. 23. All events will take place at the Kenan campus, and are available for a variety of ages.
Tales at the Taylor Theater, Sunday, Feb. 11: The February story hour event is to take place in the Kenan Center Taylor Theater at 3 p.m., with themed activities to follow the story. Activities planned include crafts, and games. The event is recommended for children preschool-age and up. Tickets are $5 for participating children, and include the story reading and all activities. An adult must accompany children during the event. Adults accompanying children are admitted free.
Winter Break Programming: Tuesday, Feb. 20-Friday, Feb. 23
Tunes and Tales with Diana: 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, Kenan Center House Living Room: Join music instructor Diana Kane for "Tunes and Tales," songs, dancing and stories. Kane will entertain the family with activities all can participate in. Then, join her for a fun craft that everyone can make and take home. Recommended for ages 2 and up (older siblings welcome). The cost is $5 per child; adults are free. An adult must accompany children.
Defiant Monkey Winter Break Family Fun Show: 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21: Defiant Monkey Improv is a two-person improvisation team that creates on-the-spot theater based on audience suggestions and participation. This show for the whole family will take place in the historic Taylor Theater. The cost is $6 per person (adult and children); children must be accompanied by an adult.
Snowga: Thursday, Feb. 22 (two sessions available): Join yoga instructor Brandi Silsby for Snowga - snow and winter-themed yoga - in the Kenan House living room. Learn new poses while practicing deep breathing, relaxation and an emphasis on mindfulness. Ideal for children in grades K-4, students will also participate in yoga obstacle courses, and beginning introduction to vinyasa. Times: Ages 3-5 years, 9:45-10:30 a.m., $12 per child; K-4, 10:45-11:45 a.m., $15 per child.
Snow Day!: 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Feb. 23: Join in for snow-day activities in the Kenan Gardens and Taylor Theater meeting room celebrating. Included will be crafts, hot cocoa, and a snowshoe demonstration from Earth Spirit. Play outside on the grounds, and other fun activities will be available. Students 10 years and up can also register for a mini-snowshoe session. The event is recommended for preschool-age and up. The cost is $6 per child and $12 per child for snowshoe lesson and all activities (adults are welcome to register for the snowshoe lesson). Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Registrations are now being accepted for all programs and events. Due to limited space for programs (except for Defiant Monkey Improv performance), advance registration is strongly recommended.
