The Buffalo Sabres and Unyts have teamed up to host a community blood drive on Monday, Feb. 5, in the Lexus Club at KeyBank Center. Presenting donors who are willing to "give the gift of life" during this important time of the year will be rewarded with two tickets to an upcoming Buffalo Sabres home game, and have an opportunity to meet Sabretooth and Sabres alumni.
"As Western New York's only community blood bank, it is our responsibility to answer the call for blood at our local hospitals and ensure that we are providing an adequate supply for patients in need," said Mark J. Simon, president and CEO of Unyts. "We are proud to call the Buffalo Sabres a partner in this life-saving endeavor, and we look forward to working with them on Feb. 5."
The Unyts community blood drive at KeyBank Center runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donors are welcome to make an appointment by visiting www.unyts.org/teamunyts. Walk-ins are also welcome. Any interested donors who can't make it to KeyBank Center on Monday can donate at their nearest Unyts Neighborhood Donation Center between Feb. 5-10 to also receive tickets to an upcoming Sabres home game.
Headquartered in downtown Buffalo and established in 1981, Unyts is among the leading procurement organizations in the U.S., and is one of the only eight centers nationwide to house organ, eye and tissue procurement in one location. With the addition of Community Blood Services in 2007, Unyts has become the first organization of its kind nationwide. Unyts operates as a nonprofit serving the eight counties of Western New York and works to assist donor families, coordinate the donation process and increase knowledge and awareness within the community regarding transplantation.
