Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has promoted Amy Wojciechowski, PharmD, BCPS-AQ ID, BCCCP, to infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship coordinator. Her appointment was effective Jan. 2.
Wojciechowski earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry and medicinal chemistry at the University at Buffalo, followed by a master's degree in chemistry and chemical biology at Harvard University, where she conducted laboratory research in microbiology. She subsequently earned a doctorate in pharmacy at the University at Buffalo and completed residencies in pharmacy and infectious diseases pharmacy at the VA Hospital in Buffalo, where she specialized in the care of hospitalized patients with infections.
She is board-certified as a critical care pharmacist and pharmacotherapy specialist with additional qualifications in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy.
Wojciechowski will work with infectious diseases physician Dr. Rajinder Bajwa and the hospital staff to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards for infection prevention and to formalize an antimicrobial stewardship program.
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials, including antibiotics, to improve patient outcomes, reduce microbial resistance and decrease the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
