Massive collection of nativity sets on display in Buffalo

Thu, Dec 21st 2017 02:05 pm
The Rev. Roy Herberger invites readers to visit Ss Columba-Brigid Church and check out his display of 600 nativity sets from around the world (58 countries and counting). Show hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 30-31 and Jan. 6-7, at 75 Hickory and Eagle streets (one block south of Clinton), Buffalo.
Admission is free, and the church is handicap-accessible. To schedule a weekday visit, or a tour, call 716-852-2076.
"I started collecting the nativity sets about 30 years ago after I saw one carved out of ebony wood from Africa," Herberger said. "It got me thinking about how people from other cultures or ethnic groups that were different than my own would celebrate and artistically portray the birth of Christ, who came for all people of all races, languages and nationalities."
