Those looking for a little pre-Lewiston Christmas Walk holiday cheer are invited to check out a new event, to be held inside the village's new Brickyard Brewing Company, 436 Center St.
From 4-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, a festive holiday market will be presented across the BBC's two floors. A Christmas tree will greet guests as they enter, and patrons can eat or stop and have a drink. As they make their way upstairs, vendors will be situated in the mezzanine and banquet areas selling unique gifts.
Admission is free.
The event is the brainchild of Jamie Symmonds, who operated Angel to Apple for nearly 10 years. She's since moved on to Willow Consulting, her own event-planning outfit.
"I have had the idea about the holiday market for a couple of years now; I have just been waiting to be inspired to have it in the perfect location," she said. "When the BBC opened, my first time in I looked around and realized this was the place. I approached them with the idea and they were gracious enough to let me have the event there.
"The place is spectacular; they did an amazing job, which is not surprising. Everything they do is done to perfection. I am so grateful that they have allowed me the opportunity to have the first annual holiday market at their place of business."
BBC Manager Steve Matthews said, "Jamie has been doing a really great job at finding us vendors that put out a special product. It's not just your run-of-the-mill. She's done her research."
"It seemed like a perfect fit," he added.
Symmonds explained, "We have approximately 30 vendors. There are local artisans as well as local brick-and-mortar businesses participating. We even have one vendor coming all the way from New York City to participate in the event. The vendors will be selling things such as jewelry, home decor, handmade specialty cards, candles, chocolate, metal decor and signs, ornaments and so much more."
"It's going to be a nice variety," she said.
Symmonds said music and merriment will fill the BBC.
"This evening was, by design, to be a kickoff to the festive and typically very busy holiday season for everyone," she said. "I love the idea of celebrating the holidays with decorations, a tree lighting, festive music and great vendors with some amazing products to offer. It will be a big party and the perfect opportunity to get some presents for the special someones in your life."
"The idea of the whole holiday market was to sort of amplify the (Christmas Walk) weekend going into it - to be a kickoff to it, more or less," Matthews said. "We're hoping it can be an annual event."
For those looking to make a night out of it, "We are releasing our winter lager," Matthews said.
Plus, "We are starting our wood-fire pizzas," he noted. "We just brought a new oven in. It just arrived last week. We've sort of been tinkering with it for the last week or so. Trying to get our recipes down. That's coming along pretty well."
In addition, the market will have a raffle, with proceeds benefiting Toys for Tots.
"People have been kind enough to donate a lot of items," Symmonds said.
