Congressman Chris Collins has asked local schools to participate in this year's "Holiday Mail for Veterans" program.
"I am proud to once again invite all elementary age students in New York's 27th District to create holiday cards for those who have served our country," Collins said. "Our nation's veterans and their families have sacrificed so much, and with the holiday season quickly approaching we are thinking of those being cared for in our VA hospitals instead of spending time at home with loved ones. Together, we can provide some holiday cheer to those that are focusing on their recoveries during this time."
With the help of local schools, holiday cards will be distributed to veterans at area Veteran Administration hospitals to show appreciation for their service to this country.
Participants are asked to drop off holiday cards to either of Collins' district offices no later than Monday, Dec. 18, to ensure delivery by Christmas. Offices are located at:
•Lancaster District Office
2813 Wehrle Drive, Suite 13, Williamsville
Phone: 716-634-2324
•Geneseo District Office
128 Main St., Geneseo
Phone: 585-519-4002
Schools are advised to contact Shannon Dougherty at [email protected] or at 585-519-4002 by Nov. 29 if students are planning on participating, or with any further questions. If cards cannot be delivered to either location, other arrangements can be made.
