The Lewiston Community Lions hosted Kate Fowler, executive director of It Happened to Alexa organization.
Founded in 2003, It Happened to Alexa (IHTA), located on Center Street in Lewiston, is a nonprofit organization that seeks to eliminate the barriers that prevent victims of rape and sexual assault from seeking justice.
IHTA's mission is to empower sexual assault victims, enabling them to become survivors and facilitate the prosecution of the offenders. IHTA provides financial, emotional and advocacy assistance to the victims at time of the trial. It has stated the support of family and friends is key to bringing a strong survivor into the courtroom. IHTA does this by providing funds for transportation and lodging to a family member or friend to be present throughout the trial for support.
IHTA has helped more than 450 rape survivors in 17 countries. For more information, or to make a donation to this organization, visit www.ithappenedtoalexa.org.
The Lewiston Community Lions provided support for IHTA with a monetary contribution.
