Shawn's Gate Art Studio in Lewiston is hosting a fundraising event to raise breast cancer awareness, titled "Breast Fest," and the Buffalo-Niagara community is invited to participate.
Participants, which may range from local artists to local businesses, church and youth group, individuals as well as families, can register for a $20 fee and receive a breast form - a polycarbonate half-shell of a female torso. Participants then lend their creativity to transform and embellish the pieces. The breast forms can be created with any medium - paint, fiber, papier-mâché, even metal.
"Use anything, silk flowers, moss, found objects, anything that evokes passion," event organizer Barbara Gray said. "They can tell personal stories from survivors, family members and friends of people who have fought the fight."
The exhibiting artists/participants will then donate their original works for the cause of breast cancer awareness to be offered at an auction on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the "Breast Fest" event to be held on the patio of Shawn's Gate Art Studio, 402 Center St.
"This special event, 'Breast Fest,' will be more than an auction. It will include guest speakers to include stories of survival of men and women who battled breast cancer," Gray said.
She noted there would be music, a chili bar provided by Scott's Corner Bistro, and a few other surprises.
"Breast Fest" is supported by the 402 Center Street shopkeepers, the Lewiston Council on the Arts and the Breast Cancer Network of WNY.
