The Lewiston Community Lions Club has announced A'ngelee Clause was awarded a $500 scholarship.
In addition to helping the Chiefs and Clan Mother meetings in the Tuscarora community building, A'ngelee was involved in musical theater, student government and is finishing up her 16th year at Adell's School of Dance. She has also helped with the summer school program at the Tuscarora Elementary School, assisting with music and pre-K students.
A'ngelee will attend Syracuse University's Martin J. Whitman School of Management Program. She said she hopes to one day lead her own business and represent her community as a Native American woman and leader.
"I hope to show future students (from the Tuscarora Nation) that there is a reason for everything we do; the long nights, difficult courses, extracurricular activities and the part-time job. It will all be worth it."
"The Lewiston Community Lions wish A'ngelee Clause the best in all her future endeavors, and hope she will continue to give back to her community," said Zone 1 Chairwoman Regina Cecconi.
The award was established to recognize a Native American graduating high school senior who resides on the Tuscarora Nation and displays a commitment and dedication to their education. As well as the residency requirement, the student must also have participated in school activities or athletics, as well as community service, earned at least a 3.0 grade-point average, and is continuing on to higher education.
