ReadyERIE Prepare-A-Thon

Join the Erie County Department of Health and the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services to celebrate National Preparedness Month.
Meet Erie County's first responders and check out the trucks, tech and tools used to keep the community safe every day:
•Erie County Health Department Public Health Emergency Preparedness - Build a first aid kit, learn about family and pet preparedness.
•Erie County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services - learn about the importance of properly functioning smoke detectors and see the iVolunteerFIRE.org MRU-mobile recruitment unit.
•Erie County Office of the Sheriff - meet a K9 team; learn about the bomb squad and check out the bear cat; see our mounted division, create a child-ID card.
•SMART-specialized medical assistance response team - see what kind of support Erie County brings to an evacuation shelter that includes pets.
•Erie County HazMat/WMD response team - meet volunteers and check out the tools they use.
•Central Police Services - Learn about the statewide automated biometric identification system (SABIS) and the STOP DWI program
•NFSAR-Niagara Frontier Search & Rescue
•Border Community Service
•American Red Cross
•Erie County Opioid Task Force - Narcan training and drug drop-off - safely get rid of your unwanted/expired medications, pet medications and syringes
In addition to demonstrations and information, there will be plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy: raffles, prizes, "Feel the Heat" first responder photo op, and food! (Lloyd's food truck, Buffalo's Best Food Truck, and Boy Scout Troop No. 445 hot dog fundraiser)
This event will be held in collaboration with WNY's Furtastic Adopt-A-Thon: A collaborative effort between multiple local animal groups, rescues and foster networks, to create a festive atmosphere to adopt out a substantial number of animals in a limited period of time. This is one-stop shopping to see over 100 animals (dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits, etc.) from multiple rescues available for adoption.  There will also be many vendors with pet-themed products and services.
