Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced Wednesday that 27-year-old Edward Kuebler of the Town of Tonawanda has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash on Grand Island.
It is alleged that on June 13, the defendant was driving on East River Road when he struck a woman walking on the side of the road and then fled the scene. Kuebler is charged with leaving the scene of an incident resulting in serious physical injury.
The victim, 53-year-old Dana Papaj of Grand Island, was seriously injured and continues to recover at Erie County Medical Center.
Flynn commended the New York State Police Investigators in Clarence "for their outstanding work," a statement from the DA's office said.
The defendant was arraigned Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Grand Island Town Court.  If convicted of the charge, he faces up to four years in prison.
Chief Kelley A. Omel of the DA's Vehicular Crimes Bureau is prosecuting the case.
