Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours recently surpassed a personal record of oldest passenger ever on-board one of its boats, with a visit from Lewiston local Mildred Cummings.
Smiling and posing for photos with the Lewiston Whirlpool Jet Boat staff, Mildred - standing proud and tall at 98 years young - visited the Lewiston location Aug. 11, taking part in the "Wet Jet" tour. She spent an hour soaking wet, learning about the history and geology of the majestic Niagara River, and experiencing the excitement of playing in class 5 whitewater rapids.
Mildred visited as a part of a group tour organized by Mount View Assisted Living, where she resides. Also on the tour was a woman who, in previous years, was unable to walk yet desperately wanted to go jet boating. After three months of therapy and learning how to walk, she finally fulfilled her dream. This time around, she was able to walk herself onto the boat for an experience of a lifetime.
Before Mildred, the previous age for the oldest passenger partaking in one of WJBT's rides was a 96-year-old woman in 2007.
