Jacobs announces Lyme disease forum

Mon, Jul 17th 2017 03:45 pm
Attendees will learn information on identification, prevention & treatment of Lyme and tick-borne diseases
New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs will host a Lyme disease forum to raise awareness of the rise of the debilitating disease across Western New York. The forum will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, July 24, at the Erie Community College South Campus, 4041 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park.
"Despite the severity of these conditions and the frequency with which they occur, there is a general lack of public awareness of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases," Jacobs said. "So many Western New Yorkers have been impacted that I think it's critically important to better educate the public so we can improve outcomes for families affected by these illnesses."
The headline of the forum will be a presentation by Dr. Daniel Cameron, a nationally renowned leader in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and tick-borne illnesses.
Additional participants include Dr. Matt Frye from the Cornell University integrated pest management program, Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein, and representatives from Lyme WNY, a local advocacy and support group.
The forum is open to the public and people are encouraged to attend. More information can be found by contacting Jacobs' office at [email protected] or 716-854-8705.
