The Niagara Falls Community Development Department has announced the 2017 "Summer In Your City" events series, including neighborhood movie nights and free, guided kayak tours.
Mayor Paul Dyster said, "Neighborhood events in our city parks have become a new Niagara Falls tradition. We welcome all residents to enjoy our public spaces and, most importantly, have fun."
The "Summer In Your City" event series kicked off with the "My School Color Run" at Hyde Park on June 3. Next up are seven outdoor movie nights, including bounce houses for the kids and a costume theme. In addition, Buffalo Niagara RiverKeeper will host free kayak tours at Griffon Park and Hyde Park.
Event dates are listed below. Kayak tour reservation information will be available at www.nf-cd.org/summer soon.
The series also highlights the City of Niagara Falls' ongoing commitment to public park improvement. Each city park location features recent upgrades and renovations, or is scheduled for improvement in the near future. Since 2011 alone, 25 significant public park improvements have been made throughout the city, including Legends Park, Gill Creek Playground, the renovated Hyde Park Ice Pavilion, the Griffon Park kayak launch and the NF Skate Park. In May 2017, the City of Niagara Falls was once again named a Playful City USA Community by KaBoom!, a national nonprofit dedicated to giving all kids the childhood they deserve, filled with balanced and active play.
Seth Piccirillo, director of community development, said, "Through public participation, our city has created a network of high-quality playgrounds and public spaces, designed for residents of all ages. The 'Summer In Your City Series' creates another opportunity for residents to get together and enjoy their parks."
